Indonesian Marinated Tofu & Tempeh (Tahu & Tempe Bacem)

We’ve received quite a number of requests for vegetarian recipe. So here it is! A traditional Indonesian dish. Tahu & tempe bacem, which is translated as marinated tofu and tempeh. One of the best ways to eat them, is with chili peppers or chili sauce.

Ingredients:
250 g tempeh, chopped
1 tofu chopped
3 bay leaves
1 inch galangal, smashed
500 ml coconut water
1-1/2 tsp palm sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbs sweet soy sauce
Oil
WET RUB
5 cloves small shallots
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp coriander seeds

1. Boil tofu and tempeh with coconut water, palm sugar, soy sweet soy sauce, bay leaves, galangal, salt, and wet rub, until tofu and tempeh are cooked and liquid has reduced to about half.

2. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

3. Heat oil in a wok. Fry tofu and tempeh until golden brown.

By the way, if you’re not that interested in a vegetarian option, you can use the spices and dry rub for chicken. 😉
